This is the tail end of the Camden Crawl. There haven't really been any bands on it this year that I really wanted to see - until now. I saw Eyelash play a storming show at the Barfly recently, and now here they are again doing the same in an even more intimate Camden venue. There were some indie-schmindie bands playing earlier tonight at Bar Monsta, but now the haircut kids and their fans have gone home to bed and the rock crowd have moved in.

It's about half past one in the morning when Eyelash take to the stage and tear things up.

Fortunately, even at this late hour there are still quite a few people hanging about to see the band - their patience is amply rewarded!

The new lineup of the band is dynamic and exciting.

This band simply sizzles with chemistry and they are really up for it tonight.

Although this lot look at first glance like some sort of 'pop group' - appearances can be very deceptive. Sonically, this is most definitely a ROCK band, and the standard of musicianship is very high - drummer Flo and guitarist Ru could easily cut it in a full on metal band if they wanted.

As it is, Eyelash sound quite heavy anyway - a couple of new bassist Marina's favourite players are Cliff Burton and Lemmy so she fits in perfectly.

Ex-Bright Lights singer and extra Eyelash vocallist Katie enhances things by giving the band a new twin vocal attack and interacts very well with the rest of the band - there is always lots happening onstage - when she gets together with original singer Fe the sparks fly!  These girls will kick your arse - and to emphasise that fact, Fe wears Doc Martens!

After Eyelash finished, The Skuzzies played - "The best band in London in the last five years" according to Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. I can only assume he doesn't get out much...
PS: Bar Monsta later went from being the coolest small venue in Camden to the worst after a change of ownership and name. It's now called 'Camden Rock' and is a dreadful place.
