30/6/2007 East Barnet Festival (Saturday)

SubjectEast Barnet Festival (Saturday)
PostedDate6/30/2007

Due to the weather the East Barnet Festival 2007  turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax.  Who's bright idea was it to hold it at the same time as Wimbledon? It was always going to piss down wasn't it!

There were around ten local bands playing on the Saturday, and in spite of the weather they all actually turned up! Unfortunately I was prevented from getting down there as early as I wanted and missed the first six bands.  It was raining on and off all day - rather breezy too. It wasn't exactly warm either - you'd never guess this is supposed to be the height of the English summer!  Attendance for this free festival seemed somewhat down on last year due to the wet conditions and none of the bands I saw had many people watching them. Roadhouse Dogs were playing as I arrived - they were a fairly standard blues/rock band but sounded rather good. Next up was Nasher - ex of Frankie Goes To Hollywood with his current band. He's doing his own thing these days and turned in a well received set of original material that soundwise reminded me at times of Oasis. The lead guitarist in his band looked familiar - a guy called Noel I think. I seem to remember him from a band called Catfish who played at the Duke Of Lancaster, and I think I've seen him play at the festival in one or two other bands over the years too.

Closing the show to the few people left remaining were some chancers called Binge Drinking - 'local ravers' according to the programme. Don't know how they managed to blag their way onto the bill - let alone end up headlining?!!!. Who does this idiot think he is mincing around in his MC5 T-shirt? Nice guitar though!
